Tcpdump is a popular network sniffer that was really popular before Wireshark. Some people also continue to use it frequently. But most of the people have already switched to Wireshark because it does not has pretty GUI. But it works fine with less security risk.
Now it is not in development and now features are not being added. But it regularly gets bug fixes and other patches. It is great for tracking down network problems or monitoring activity.
